Due to poor weather, the trail ride scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled. Show |
|
Helena Versatility Show at Rae’s Arena (May 10-12) and Annual Point Show at Sapphire Event Center (July 5-7): Both shows were successful, and we were fortunate to have the indoor arena for the annual show because of the hot weather. Now we are planning for the 2008 shows. Bob said we need show chairs for both shows so please contact him if you are interested. Thank you Mark Goss, Mary Auger, and Rick Padgett, our show chairs, for all you did to make the shows run so well. Thank you to everyone else who helped at both shows. You are the unsung heroes who make things happen for all the competitors, and much of what you do is behind the scenes and not recognized. We thank you for your selfless efforts.

2008 MFTHBA Board Election: The board recommended that members pass the revised bylaws and the regional representation issues. The revised bylaws will allow MFTHBA to correctly function in a legal manner. Officers and board members who were recommended are Gene Donley for president, Sarah McCoin for vice-president, Jim Wood for secretary/treasurer, Mark Goss for board position #1 and John Deutsch for position #2.
Big Horn Basin Fox Trotter Association 2008 Show: Gary Becker reported to Bob Womack that the Big Horn Basin group is trying to organize a points show in Thermopolis next year. It would be a performance and versatility show.
2008 University of Montana Homecoming Parade: Bob asked members to think about riding as a group in the parade next year.
Novice Classes at Future Points Shows: After discussion of novice classes at our shows, Jerry Christison moved and Cathy Olson seconded that we allow novice riders to compete in non-point novice classes without an amateur card. Motion passed.
Youth High Point Championship: Members discussed the idea of allowing youth competitors to drop one of the classes required for competing in this championship. For example, a rider could choose to compete in five out of six required classes. The English class was mentioned as an example of a class that for some youth is a barrier due to the expense of English tack and attire. This issue will be brought to the attention of the 2008 show committees.
Versatility Circuit Participation: Bob Womack reported that we had five members competing in our circuit, and discussion about the circuit followed. We did not get the increased numbers of participants or new members that we anticipated from our involvement in the circuit. Members agreed that participation numbers were low, but they want to continue offering the eight versatility classes for youth, novice, amateur and open levels and possibly add more classes. This would require us to add novice and youth versatility champion awards at our annual point show, because we currently offer only amateur and open recognition. Members feel it is important to recognize versatility winners at our show, especially if we are not in a circuit. Bill Free moved and Kristina Tracer seconded that we discontinue participation in a 2008 circuit but continue to offer versatility classes as we do now. Motion passed.
2008 BSFTA Budget: Club and show expenses were discussed, and it was agreed that we need to develop a budget for club and show expenses next year. The first year the budget would be a rough guide, but it would be fine-tuned each year thereafter as we more accurately determine income and expenses. We currently do not a have a budget to guide us.
